TO Hearing: Fantasy impact

Friday, November 18th, 2005 by Gus

I’m going to have to differ with Eben on the TO situation. For fantasy football players who own TO, his return by week 15 could have a big impact on the playoffs. Personally, I have held onto him where I owned him, and grabbed him in leagues where he was dropped. The media predictions are all over the map: here ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio and Chris Mortensen argue TO has a chance to return, while FOX sports “legal analyst” Rob Becker says no way.

If Donovan McNabb hangs it up for the season to have surgery for his sports hernia, what impact will it have on the TO scenario? It might alleviate the locker room tension, paving the way for TO to return. I doubt that Mike McMahon would complain about having TO on the field to make him look decent. The only downside about this hypothetical situation is that TO may not have near the fantasy value with McMahon behind center.

Priest put on IR

Priest Holmes has been put on the injured reserve list. If I were Priest, I would do the same thing, no matter how much Dick Vermeil trivialized my “burners”. Hey, it may feel like paralysis, but don’t worry, it doesn’t last very long.

I hate to say I told you so. If you are a Priest fantasy owner, I hope you handcuffed Larry Johnson in your league–he’s going to be a top 5 running back for the rest of the season.

T.O. on the GO

Monday, November 7th, 2005 by Eben the Goat

On the heels of the T.O. suspension, Roger Rotter of foxsports.com states: “Unfortunately for owners, Owens was expensive and cost numerous owners a second-round pick, according to FOXSports.com’s fantasy drafts. He was the second overall receiver taken after Randy Moss.” He then continues to suggest that fantasy owners who have lost Owens turn to “Reggie Brown, who replaced Owens in the lineup, and third-year vet Greg Lewis. Both will serve well as No. 3 receivers with a legit chance at five catches for 60 yards per game, along with the possibility of a touchdown.” This serves as fantasy analysis? Mr. Rotter was not a math major apparently, as two number 3 receivers-even if you could start them in one slot-still don’t add up to a number 1.

Yes, for the record, I did have Owens, and-in my shame-I did pick up Reggie Brown today.
